Our Sumatra offers the best of the South Pacific/Asia growing region. Coffee from the islands of Sumatra, Sulawesi, Java, and Papua New Guinea are know for their rich fullness. With heavy body, smooth acidity, and sweet round finish, our Sumatra is no exception. We roast these beans to accentuate the body and enhance the natural richness of this wonderful coffee.
 
Our coffee comes from the Takengon region in the northern Sumatra Aceh province and is produced by over 200 farmers beneath the rising peaks of the Gayo Mountains. In this remote inland region, there are many environmental and socio-economic problems facing farmers. The higher price and environmental improvements that come from Certified Organic and Fair Trade coffees help to improve the lives and communities of the growers.
 
The project that produces this coffee is an alliance of a number of groups including the Community-Based Gayo Organic Farmers Association, the Indonesian Social Concern Foundation, local farmers groups, and coffee processors. This project promotes organic practices including composting, biological pest management, and the interplanting of other tree species. Citrus and other fruit trees give shelter to numerous species of birds while protecting this shade grown coffee from the sun. These trees also provide an extra source of nourishment and income to farmers and workers.
